Smart Metering and data management for a gas sector 4.0

14:00 - 17:00
The processes of innovation, digital and 4.0-related, impact strategic infrastructure and services such as the production and distribution of gas, water, and electricity. All the spheres of activity of public utilities are increasingly called to conduct and promote the processes of change for Smart City services.
The keystone of this transformation lies in the ability to collect and analyse the enormous quantity of (big) data coming from the "objects" (monitored by meters and sensors) disseminated through the cities and networks. The smart gas technologies, for example, suggest new models of consumption, touching sensitive and strategic aspects whereby plans for intelligently managing urban and local energy resources can be studied.
The collection and management of data, often sensitive, prompts delicate issues with consequences on the activity of utilities and thus on citizen-customers. First of all, protecting them from possible cyber attacks (theft, manipulation, fraud, etc.) and, then, the question of privacy (such as the processing and free circulation of personal information), recently the subject of EU Regulation 2016/679, better known as GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation).
