Ghana confirms itself as a stable and strategic market for West Africa, with strong investments in the water, energy, environmental, and infrastructure sectors.
ICE – Italian Trade Agency (Agency for the promotion abroad and internationalization of Italian companies), in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Accra, is evaluating the organization of a business mission, tentatively scheduled for the end of the first half of 2026.
Opportunities for Italian Companies
Recently, ICE developed a report that examines the technology and water treatment sector in Ghana, with the aim of providing Italian producers, exporters, and importers with critical information for market entry and investment opportunities. The current infrastructure, technological gaps, regulatory frameworks, and investment potential in the country's urban and rural water systems were also analyzed.
Ghana, thanks to its democratic government and its growing economy, represents a strategic entry point for Italian companies into the water markets of West Africa. At this time, its water sector is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by urbanization, population growth, and increasing water quality challenges. The government's goal is to guarantee sustainable water and basic sanitation services for all by 2030, creating ample opportunities for Italian companies specializing in water technologies.
The ICE market survey identified concrete opportunities for Italian technologies and companies operating in the following areas:
- Efficient management of water resources
- Plant engineering and water treatment
- Smart metering and digitization of services
- Infrastructure
- Public-Private Partnerships (PPP)
The complete survey (IT/EN) is available on the ICE portal, downloadable upon registration: https://www.ice.it/it/area-clienti/ricerche/note-informative-mercati?idPaese=276

Why Participate
Ghana shows a growing need for investment in water and environmental infrastructure, with sustainability and the reduction of water losses placed among the government priorities; this creates concrete opportunities for partnership in projects co-financed by multilateral institutions (AfDB, World Bank) and an increasing demand for Italian technologies, appreciated for quality, reliability, and technical support.
Italian companies equipped with innovative technologies, a consolidated track record, and a strong focus on developing local partnerships are in the ideal position to succeed in this dynamic and rapidly evolving market, particularly regarding the following sectors:
- Companies manufacturing water treatment technologies
- Providers of solutions for water network management (Smart meters, Leak detection)
- Automation and control companies (SCADA)
